Rise in Testicular Cancer Among Latino Men Signals Wider Health Crisis

A January 2025 National Cancer Institute report reveals a disturbing trend that demands immediate attention: testicular cancer rates are surging across the United States, with Latino men experiencing the most dramatic increases.
For the first time in history, Latino men’s testicular cancer rates have caught up to non-Hispanic White men—historically the highest-risk group. Even more concerning, Latino men are being diagnosed younger and at more advanced stages of disease.
The data shows testicular germ cell tumors (TGCTs) increasing by a concerning 3.03% annually among Latino men, far outpacing other demographic groups.
Underscreened, Underdiagnosed, Undertreated
“If there is a continuing even widening cancer disparity, it is amongst Latino men,” warns TLCI Founder Ysabel Duron. Latino males suffer higher cancer mortality rates not only because of social determinants of health, but cultural beliefs and social practices like machismo that create barriers to early interventions.
This pattern of unaddressed issues extends beyond testicular cancer. Latino men face disproportionate risks for prostate, liver, stomach, and colorectal cancers, yet remain significantly less likely to receive recommended screenings or optimal treatments.
The Latino Cancer Institute Responds with 2025 Men’s Health Forums
TLCI is addressing this crisis head-on through our 2025 Forum Series, launching in September during National Hispanic Heritage Month. These free, virtual forums will spotlight the critical intersection of Latino men’s health and economic vitality.
The forums will feature leading researchers, healthcare providers, community organizations, and policy experts addressing:
- Prostate cancer screening and treatment disparities
- Rising testicular cancer rates among young Latino men
- Colorectal and other cancer risks affecting Latino men
- Cultural barriers to healthcare access and screening
- Innovative colorectal research leveraging AI
As in all our previous forums, we convene leading voices not just to share current state and trends, but also innovations, news on promising approaches and policy recommendations to improve health outcomes.
📅 Mark your calendars for September 12, October 3, and October 24, 2025. All forums will include Spanish interpretation.
We, Latinos, worked hard for many years to be included and supported. Now we must build on this foundation to ensure Latino men are supported in our healthcare system. The time for inclusion isn’t behind us—it’s ahead of us, and we need to lead the way despite a landscape of changing terminology and a government that appears to want to erase us. As we continue highlighting critical disparities in cancer screening, treatment access, and outcomes among Latino communities, we remain committed to evidence-based approaches and clear communication—regardless of changing terminology at the federal level.” — Ysabel Duron, Founder, The Latino Cancer Institute
