The Latino Cancer Institute Presents: One Step Forward, Two Steps Back – Advances and Barriers in Latina Breast Cancer

Join us for the third installment of our virtual Friday Forum Series, “Talking About Cancer Won’t Kill Us, The Silence Will – Trends in Latino Cancer.” This free, public event is presented in collaboration with the FDA’s Oncology Center of Excellence during National Hispanic Family Cancer Awareness Week. 

This Breast Cancer Awareness Month, we’re bringing together leading researchers and experts to discuss crucial aspects of Latina breast cancer care. Our distinguished speakers will explore: 

  • Trends in Latina breast cancer – Dr. Eliseo Perez Stable, Director, National Institute on Minority Health and Health Disparities (NIMHD)
  • Breast Cancer, Genetics and Barriers to Advanced Testing – Dr. Laura Fejerman, UC Davis Comprehensive Cancer Center
  • Systemic barriers to genetic testing for low-income Latinas – Dr. Manali Patel, Stanford University School of Medicine 
  • National Breast Cancer Roundtable’s new 5-year Strategic Plan – Sarah Shafir, MPH, Vice President, National Roundtables & Coalitions, ACS 

Our speakers will share insights from recent research projects, discuss disparities in access to genetic and genomic testing, and examine policy changes needed to create a more equitable future in breast cancer care for Latinas.
