As we launch into 2025, cervical cancer remains one of the most preventable yet persistent health challenges in our Latino communities. Drawing from our impactful Friday Forum Series, “Talking about cancer won’t kill us, the silence will!” we share insights into prevention strategies and discuss AI’s potential for improving healthcare for Latino communities.
Read our first newsletter of the year, Latino Cancer Care in 2025: From AI Innovations to Prevention Strategies. The impact of our Forum Series is clear — 100% of survey respondents plan to attend future TLCI Forums. This issue highlights the ongoing conversations about AI’s potential to improve cancer care for Latino populations and emphasizes the need for prevention strategies that prioritize our community’s unique health needs.
According to our recent Forum 4 discussions, our community shows both caution and hope about AI in healthcare. While 74% of participants expressed privacy concerns about health data sharing, they also recognized AI’s potential to enhance screenings and diagnosis in Latino communities.
However, AI’s promise for better health outcomes can only be fully realized if we address the existing gaps in its development. The lack of diverse representation in AI training data is a significant challenge, as many AI tools are created using data from predominantly non-Latino populations.
As we look to the future, our Friday Forum Series has not only highlighted these equity challenges but also proposed actionable steps to ensure that AI technologies and cancer prevention strategies truly benefit Latino communities.
Throughout the year, we’ll continue to bring you key takeaways from our successful virtual series, spotlighting Latino health trends, genetic discoveries, and essential steps to address health inequities.
