What’s Missing in Latino Cancer Care

Nearly 100 people nationwide have already registered for the 2025 Forum Series, Latino Men’s Health—Spotlighting Cancer, An Unanswered Burden, hosted by The Latino Cancer Institute (TLCI). This series addresses the critical gaps in cancer research and care that disproportionately impact Latino men across the U.S.
The Forum Series brings together cancer survivors, leading researchers, healthcare professionals, and community advocates to discuss concerning cancer trends, health disparities, and the increasing need to close the research and workforce development gap. Although Latinos represent nearly 19% of the U.S. population, they make up only 6% of doctors. At the same time, just 28% of Latino men receive the prostate cancer screenings they need—a call to action that underscores why this series matters.
Three Forums, Three Critical Focus Areas
Forum 1: September 12, 2025
- Topic: Why Are Latino Men at Higher Risk for Cancer?
- Highlights: A conversation with three Latino cancer survivors and new research on the economic toll of cancer disparities.
Forum 2: October 3, 2025
- Topic: Machismo, A Key Driver of Latino Male Health and Risk!
- Highlights: A discussion on how machismo functions as a health barrier and coping mechanism, plus urgent findings on climate change as a cancer driver for agricultural workers.
Forum 3: October 24, 2025
- Topic: Building an Equitable Latino Healthcare Workforce
- Highlights: A forum featuring leaders from the Latino Medical Student Association and the National Hispanic Health Foundation to address the critical need for Latino representation in healthcare.
These Forums will present the genetic, biological, cultural, and environmental factors that create health disparities. Participants will learn about early detection strategies, economic analyses of delayed care, genetic research, and AI innovations designed to improve cancer outcomes in Latino communities.
