Mariana Stern, PhD, is a Professor of Population Public Health Sciences & Urology and the Ira Goodman Chair in Cancer Research at the Keck School of Medicine of USC.

She serves as the Associate Director of Population Science at the Norris Comprehensive Cancer Center and Director of master’s degree programs in Epidemiology.

Stern is a cancer epidemiologist whose research focuses on colorectal cancer disparities in Latino communities. Her work examines how biological and sociocultural factors contribute to unequal cancer outcomes and emphasizes patient engagement and culturally appropriate education to improve prevention and early detection.

She earned her PhD in Cancer Biology from the University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center and completed postdoctoral training in epidemiology at the National Institute of Environmental Health Sciences (NIEHS).
